The Technology
The installation includes only the best quality equipment, enabling us to provide a top performing and flexible web hosting service to our diverse range of clients.

Server Hardware
Theihost.com use industrial strength web server equipment for performance and reliability including Intel Pentium and Sun Sparc based systems. All servers have dual processors, dual 100Mbit Ethernet adapters, a minimum of 1 gigabyte of memory and a server grade mainboard and chipset. Storage is spread across multiple Ultra 160 SCSI hard disk drives using Adaptec RAID controllers.

Operating System
We run UNIX based servers for maximum flexibility. The UNIX machines are predominately FreeBSD based with Sun Solaris being used in some particularly high load situations.

Software
Time honored software, with our own bespoke modifications and improvements powers the servers. UNIX installations include a web server derived from the popular Apache web server in conjunction with the powerful mySQL database server and qmail mail server.

Control Panel
The industry leading web based control panel is the front end to the powerful server administration and management system. Managing all aspects of the service with an unrivaled level of automation, allowing us to run the business with great efficiency and pass the cost savings on to our customers.

Data Backup
Every server on the network runs a RAID based disk redundancy solution, should any of the primary disk drives fail, a secondary disk drive can take over the work load with no loss of availability. In addition, data on the servers is backed up to the Storagetek Timberwolf DLT tape library.

The Network
The network utilises fibre optic connections from BT, Telewest, Kingston Communications & Fibrenet. Each building has fibre presented from a minimum of two different telcos ensuring that no single point of failure exists within the infrastructure.

Throughout the network, key equipment is duplicated, we use technologies including BGP and hot standby routing protocol to ensure the continuous availability of your web site even in the event of the failure of one piece of equipment.

The network is fully switched, utilising high specification components including Cisco routers and 3com switches. All core equipment is fully redundant ensuring continuous service in the event of equipment failure.

UPS
Multiple uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) protect the network from power outages and condition the power output to sensitive equipment.

Generator
In the event of a utility power outage lasting more than a few minutes, a diesel generator starts automaticaly, providing power to the entire data centre systems and offices.

Fire Suppression
In the event of a fire breaking out, it will be detected promptly and an inert gas released into the atmosphere extinguishing it quickly and safely whilst minimising damage and disruption to equipment.
